OUR SHARED PRIORITIES

What WE Will Work On Together

Stittsville has a content problem. It's called ignoring the real ones.

Diverting attention to social media highlight reels while gridlock grows, schools overflow, and streets stay unsafe is not a plan. Here is ours.

This platform wasn't written in isolation. It comes from conversations at doors, messages from neighbors, and discussions in community groups. These are OUR priorities.

πŸš—

1. TACKLING GRIDLOCK TOGETHER

THE CHALLENGE WE FACE:

  • Terry Fox Drive congestion (especially during rush hour)
  • Hazeldean Road backups extending commute times
  • Limited Highway 417 access points
  • 45-60+ minute commutes to downtown Ottawa
  • Lost time with family and increased stress

WHAT WE'LL FIGHT FOR:

  • βœ“ Additional 417 on-ramps/off-ramps for Stittsville access
  • βœ“ Traffic signal timing optimization using modern technology
  • βœ“ New east-west corridor planning to reduce pressure on existing routes
  • βœ“ Carpool and ride-share incentive programs
  • βœ“ Real-time traffic monitoring and community updates
  • βœ“ Resident input required on ALL major transportation projects

OUR COMMITMENT: "We won't accept band-aid solutions. We demand long-term planning that puts families first, not just developers."

2. SMART DEVELOPMENT: ENDING THE HOUSING CHAOS

A Note from Nagmani: As both a Real Estate Entrepreneur and a Ward 6 neighbour living right on the Stittsville border, I see the housing crisis from both sides of the table. I understand why housing is needed. I also see exactly how mismanaged, infrastructureless development is destroying the quality of life in communities like ours. The answer is not to stop building. The answer is to build smart.

THE REALITY WE FACE:

  • Rapid housing development with no matching investment in schools, roads, or services
  • Developers receiving approvals before water, sewage, and transit capacity is confirmed
  • Overcrowded schools operating in portables with no funded expansion plans
  • Limited medical facilities and walk-in clinics as population surges
  • Promises of parks, community centres, and amenities that are never legally binding
  • Stittsville's community character being eroded by volume-over-quality development
  • Residents consulted after decisions are made rather than before

THE SMART DEVELOPMENT STANDARD I WILL ENFORCE:

  • βœ“ Infrastructure First, Always: No development approval until schools, roads, water, sewage, and transit capacity are confirmed in writing
  • βœ“ Binding Developer Commitments: Parks, community spaces, and services promised must be legally secured with financial penalties for non-delivery
  • βœ“ School Capacity Verified: Written confirmation from school boards required before any major subdivision is approved
  • βœ“ Real Consultation: Mandatory public meetings before any decision, with genuine consideration of resident concerns on the record
  • βœ“ Developer Accountability Dashboard: A public online tracker showing which builders kept their promises and which did not
  • βœ“ Healthcare Access Planning: New developments must demonstrate medical facility capacity or contribute to its creation
  • βœ“ Green Space Protection: No reduction of designated parkland. Every neighbourhood maintains its accessible outdoor spaces
  • βœ“ Mixed-Use That Serves Residents: Commercial and community space integrated into subdivisions, not bolted on years later

MY COMMITMENT AS SOMEONE WHO KNOWS THE INDUSTRY: "I understand how developers work. I know the loopholes. I know the promises that get made and the ones that get forgotten. As your councillor, I will use that knowledge to write stronger protections, demand stronger commitments, and vote NO on any development that puts profit ahead of our community's readiness to receive it."

3. TRANSIT THAT ACTUALLY WORKS

THE CHALLENGE WE FACE:

  • Infrequent bus service making transit impractical
  • No viable transit option for work commutes
  • Park-and-ride lots consistently full
  • No LRT connection to Stittsville
  • Transit not family-friendly or accessible

WHAT WE'LL PUSH FOR:

  • βœ“ Express routes to downtown and Kanata tech centers
  • βœ“ Increased frequency on all existing routes
  • βœ“ Expanded park-and-ride facilities with covered waiting areas
  • βœ“ Long-term LRT extension planning to Stittsville
  • βœ“ Affordable family transit passes
  • βœ“ On-demand community shuttle pilot programs
  • βœ“ Better bus shelters with real-time arrival information

OUR COMMITMENT: "We deserve transit that respects our time and serves our needs. We'll fight for service that works for working families."

4. SAFETY, COMMUNITY STRENGTH AND SENIORS FIRST

A Personal Note from Nagmani: I worked at Deer Lodge Centre, the Veterans retirement home in Winnipeg, and at the Health Sciences Centre. My wife has dedicated over 20 years to senior care, including right here in Stittsville. I do not just talk about seniors as a policy issue. I have walked those halls. I know the daily challenges residents and staff face. As your Councillor, seniors will always have a seat at the table.

THE CHALLENGE WE FACE:

  • Speeding in residential areas endangering children and seniors
  • Insufficient street lighting creating safety concerns
  • Sidewalks and crosswalks not accessible enough for seniors and mobility aids
  • OC Transpo routes that do not adequately serve retirement communities
  • Emergency response time concerns across the ward
  • Senior residents feeling isolated from community decisions and services
  • Youth activity and recreation gaps

WHAT WE WILL WORK FOR:

  • βœ“ Traffic calming measures near schools, crosswalks and retirement communities
  • βœ“ Improved street lighting with LED upgrades throughout the ward
  • βœ“ Accessible sidewalks and safe crosswalks near all senior residences
  • βœ“ Better OC Transpo routes specifically serving retirement communities
  • βœ“ Advocate for a dedicated fire station in South Stittsville
  • βœ“ Push to improve 911 response times to under 8 minutes
  • βœ“ Regular town halls held inside senior communities to listen directly
  • βœ“ Ensure new development includes accessible amenities for seniors
  • βœ“ Community policing and neighbourhood watch programs
  • βœ“ Youth and senior programming expansion
  • βœ“ Parks and recreation facility improvements
  • βœ“ Snow clearing improvements on side streets near senior residences

OUR COMMITMENT: "Safe streets are the foundation of strong communities. Our seniors built Stittsville. Every resident, at every stage of life, deserves a councillor who truly gets it."

πŸ“Š HOW WE'LL MEASURE SUCCESS

We believe in accountability. Here's how we'll track progress:

  • βœ“ Quarterly community report cards published online
  • βœ“ Annual resident satisfaction surveys
  • βœ“ Public monthly town halls (in-person and virtual)
  • βœ“ Transparent voting record with explanations
  • βœ“ Accessible office hours (evenings and weekends)
